Divorce or separation

Dissolving a civil partnership

If you are contemplating ending your civil partnership (in a process called dissolution), then there are so many things to consider.  You may be concerned about where you will live and possibly how you will afford to live.  Hard decisions will need to be made about what happens to your home, any children and your financial assets.  You need good legal advice to protect your interests as you move into the next part of your life.

The procedure is similar to the one for getting a divorce in that you will need to prove that there has been an irretrievable breakdown in your relationship.  However, only a small number of courts can formalise this for you.

Depending on how well you get on with your civil partner and the complexity of your financial affairs, you have a choice of routes to go down.  At Miles & Partners, we can help you to secure agreement on key decisions in the following ways:

Most couples wish to avoid going to court if possible, and our family lawyers are skilled at helping couples to reach agreement in a more constructive way.
